An Open Letter to AdidasTerrex

November 27, 2017

Hi, I wanted to reach out to Adidas to let you know what a big difference you are making in the world. Your funding and sponsorship to Adaptive Climbing Group has truly changed my life! I found out about the Adaptive National climbing competition just a few months beforehand. Being on disability and unable to work there was no way I could have saved up enough money in time to cover the cost of travel and lodging. ACG made it possible for me to attend that event. I ended up placing 3rd in my division, earning me a spot to compete in the ISCF Paraclimbing World Championship. Again, it was your donation that made it possible for me to attend that trip.

By that time, I fell in love with the adaptive climbing community and felt the need to establish something similar within my own city. I live in St. Louis, MO and was the only adaptive climber to participate in any of those events. By joining the ACG team and Chicago community of adaptive climbers I got to see how therapeutic and life changing climbing can be for those with disabilities. Our society often associates physical disability with weakness. For someone who didn't grow up with a supportive family or someone who becomes disabled later in life, being linked to this notion of weakness can traumatize the ego and lead to feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness. I heard many personal stories about how becoming involved with climbing literally saved these people’s lives. Given that rock climbing is one of the most adventurous and strenuous sports out there, I cannot think of a better way one could prove to both themselves and society their true strength and worth.

My ultimate goal is to make sure that anyone in St. Louis who wants to rock climb, has access to the necessary equipment and support to do so!  Because of your generous donations to ACG, they were able to organize and sponsor the very first adaptive climbing weekend clinic in St. Louis.  The clinic was such a success that our local gym, Upper Limits, is now investing in adaptive equipment and working towards establishing an official adaptive climbing program.

I cannot thank you enough for your continuous support to ACG. I hope this story reassures you that your donations are going towards a wonderful cause and that you see how much of a difference you are making in our world.  It’s amazing that such a large company has taken the time to invest in these types of social causes. I truly believe all the good karma you are spreading will be sent right back to you and that it will propel you even further towards meeting your next business goals.

I look forward to spreading the word about the generosity of Adidas Terrex!
