Ian Vallejo was an Evolv athlete who was a competitive paraclimber. He traveled all around the country and parts of the world to climb in some of the most famous climbing areas. In 2016, he won a bronze medal at USA Climbing Adaptive Nationals competition. Giving him a place on the USA Climbing team to represent the U.S. at the International Federation Sport Climbing Paraclimbing World Championships in Paris.

However, he never was able to represent the United States in paraclimbing.  His cancer that caused his amputation, returned a week after nationals. He went back on to treatment for cancer. It stopped him from competing, but not climbing any day he felt strong enough.

He was fighting hard. We missed him at nationals last year and decided to let him know that it was not the same without him. In June 2018 we sent him this message.

One month later we said goodbye. To honor him and his want to give other people like him the opportunity to climb we worked with his family, Evolv, his inspirations, and his mentors to create this scholarship. We want to give the gift to another talented climber so they can finish Ian’s goals of representing his country in the sport of climbing. Evolv agreed with us, and we are happy they have agreed to fund this endeavor.
